Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings can repair many minor problems like small cavities or chips. These fillings are made of a tooth-color composite resin, a material that closely mimics the shade and texture of natural enamel.

Nobody will notice you’ve had fillings done or that you’ve chipped a front tooth once they’ve been restored using composite resins. Dr. Howey will find the resin that perfectly matches the rest of their smile, and he will polish the filling until he achieves seamless integration with the restored tooth. At Klahanie Family Dentistry, we only use tooth-colored composite for fillings to get outstanding aesthetic results.

Video 01:00 | These days, there’s no reason to settle for a smile that’s less than ideal. Bonding is a dental technique that can improve the appearance of teeth by repairing chips, cracks, stains or gaps.

What is composite resin bonding?

Composite resin bonding is a technique that uses a tooth-colored filling material. It can be used both to restore teeth that have been affected by decay and to repair minor imperfections that can affect your smile, like chips in the front teeth or small gaps between them. The material comes in many shades, enabling Dr. Howey to find the one that perfectly matches your natural teeth. Once polished, composite resin bonding is almost impossible to detect. Dr. Howey is an expert at creating virtually invisible fillings, ensuring perfect cosmetic results.

How could composite resin bonding enhance your smile?

Many patients can benefit from this technique. Composite bonding can fix:

Cavities
Chipped teeth
Small gaps between teeth

With proper care, these restorations can last many years. Composite resins have been a popular choice ever since their first appearance: few other materials have the same lifespan and aesthetic results. Protecting anterior cosmetic bonding from the stresses of clenching and grinding is essential in making them last. Not using them to bite into things or to open packages, and protecting them with a night guard will help to avoid breaking or chipping.

How do I care for tooth-colored fillings?

Composite fillings don’t need any special attention. Your fillings will last longer if you take good care of them, so you should work on your oral hygiene to keep them in good condition. Apart from brushing and flossing twice a day, we also advise patients to visit the office regularly for professional cleanings. Our team at Klahanie Family Dentistry will always be here to ensure your oral health, so make sure you schedule regular check-up visits to have your smile examined and your teeth deeply cleaned!

Veneers

Dental veneers are the perfect option for those patients looking for a dramatic enhancement of their smiles. This cosmetic treatment can correct a wide range of dental imperfections, including discolorations, tooth wear, small gaps between teeth, or size discrepancies.

What is a porcelain veneer?

Veneers are thin shells that are placed over the tooth’s visible front part to improve its appearance. They look like natural teeth and give patients the confidence to talk, laugh, and smile in public with no limitations.

What can porcelain veneers correct?

Porcelain veneers can fix multiple cosmetic problems. They are custom-made for each patient, and our dentist takes the time to design your new smile so that the color and shape of the veneers fit the rest of your teeth. Once veneers are in place, they’ll look like the very best version of your natural teeth.

Porcelain veneers can be a great solution to common issues such as:

Permanent discoloration
Unevenly worn teeth
Chipped teeth
Visible fracture lines on front teeth
Small gaps between front teeth
Slightly crooked teeth
Teeth that are too small or short

The benefits of choosing porcelain veneers

If you’ve ever felt self-conscious about your smile, consider that veneers might help you build the confidence you are now lacking. In as little as two visits, you can get a brand new smile that you’d be proud to show off.

These restorations can last many years when properly cared for. They will always look as great as the first day as they don’t stain as easily as natural teeth!

Veneers vs. Crowns

The difference between a veneer and a crown is that while a veneer only covers the front of the tooth, a crown covers the entire tooth, front and back. The tooth preparation for a veneer is much more conservative as it leaves more natural enamel intact.

In some cases, our dentist might consider that a patient may need crowns to achieve perfect cosmetic results. Sometimes, the teeth are not strong enough to support veneers. But in most cases, porcelain veneers are a suitable option and will get patients the cosmetic look they are longing for.

Video 01:00 | If your teeth are chipped, cracked or stained you may want to consider veneers.

What to expect when getting veneers

Some patients wonder if getting porcelain veneers will damage their teeth. Veneers won’t ruin the teeth, but they permanently alter their structure. So patients should be sure about this cosmetic enhancement before the treatment gets started.

Steps to getting porcelain veneers:

Consultation visit: our dentist will talk with the patient about the treatment expectations.
Teeth preparation: in the next visit, the dentist will numb the area and file down a thin layer of enamel from the front and sides of the teeth.
Impressions: the dentist will take impressions of the prepared teeth and send them to the dental lab, where the veneers will be manufactured following his specific instructions. He will place temporary veneers in the meantime.
Bonding of permanent veneers: after one or two weeks, the patient will come back to the office to have the permanent veneers bonded.

Many patients are concerned about the lifespan of the veneers. But the truth is that it largely depends on how well they take care of the restorations. Patients who don’t brush correctly and floss daily will find that their porcelain veneers will only last a few years. On the other hand, patients who have good oral hygiene, visit the dentist regularly for professional cleanings, not use them to open packages, and wear a night guard will likely see their veneers last for decades.

In-office and take-home professional whitening

Tooth whitening is by far one of the most-wanted cosmetic treatments. At Klahanie Family Dentistry, we are pleased to answer this request by offering Zoom whitening for in-office treatments, custom bleach trays, and prefabricated disposable trays.

Video 00:27 | Smiling is a whole lot easier when you know you’ve got a bright, youthful grin. Our tooth whitening procedure can give you the best smile of your life quickly, easily and reliably. Now that is a happy thought.

Each system can whiten your teeth, but to achieve more dramatic results in less time, we also advise using the in office whitening system, and follow up with at home options.

Ask our dentist about the whitening strips on your next visit. He’ll explain how safe and comfortable they are and how you’ll get excellent results without having to spend hours in the chair!

Should I whiten my teeth?

We always encourage our patients to clear up their doubts during their visits to the office. Our team of professionals at Klahanie Family Dentistry is happy to help you decide which whitening treatment is the best for you. We will take the time to walk you through the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment. Together, we will determine the best way to achieve the aesthetic results you are looking for.
